The making of Diptych

Driving through a snowstorm is how the idea for Diptych came about. The beam of headlights When the headlights beam reacts to the falling snow flakes it looks like a river.

I set up this instillation in my basement studio, the camera was set up for one point perspective and was close to the set up, there was barley enough distance for my 4x5 camera but I wanted to be able to use both the tilt and shift afforded by the use of a 4x5. The first image was created alternating both white and black strings. Paint and plaster were used to darken or lighten the string. The second image I used white string and glassine paper. I was trying to capture the peaceful feeling when the storm clears and there’s  stillness and quiet.
