Making of Sentinels

A strong influence in the conception and making of this project has been the architecture of the exhibition hall at COCC. While planning an upcoming show at Central Oregon Community College later this year, I strongly responded to the shotgun shape of the gallery itself.

After the 2016 election, I felt adrift and questioning the direction of my country.

My goal is to pack the gallery with these interactive unstable standing sentinels, in hope that they convey an unsettling feeling as you walk through and interact with them (they sit on a round base that allows them to wobble).

These shapes resemble unstable beacons or buoys. They might represent a loss of direction and our difficulty to navigate through uncertain times.
